Northern blue-tongued skink At nearly 24 inches, the northern blue-tongued skink is the largest of the blue-tongued lizards. They are a dull brown or beige, but their tongues are a bright, cobalt blue. Though northern blue-tongued skinks have small, weak legs, they are able to move across the ground very quickly. Skinks are omnivorous, enjoying many types of foods such as insects, snails, carrion, wildflowers, and native fruits and berries. Female northern blue-tongued skinks are ovoviviparous, which means that the young develop in membranes inside the mother and are born live. Females can give birth to as many as 15 baby skinks at a time.  © MSA 2005 Range: eastern Australia Habitat: forests, grasslands
