Summer Safari campers will explore the lives, habitats, and conservation of animals around the world. Week-long sessions include exciting hands-on activities, lessons, craft projects, science experiments, and walks through the Zoo (but no direct contact with animals). Summer Safari Day Camp is accredited by the American Camp Association.

Please DO NOT enroll your child in these camps unless they are entering the specified grade level in Fall 2016. Campers who do not meet the appropriate grade requirements will be transferred to the grade-appropriate camp, if space allows. Camp sessions are grouped into four grade levels: K-1, 2-3, 4-5, and 6-7. Day camp is not offered at the pre-K level. Children should be registered for the grade level they will be entering in the fall, and they may only be registered within their correct age group.
Weeklong sessions are available June 22-August 14, 2015 from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Campers must be dropped off between 8:45 and 9 a.m. A limited number of spots are available in Before-Camp Care from 8 to 8:45 a.m. and in After-Camp Care from 3 to 6 p.m.
Note: Following DC kindergarten eligibility law, children must turn five (5) years of age on or before September 30th to be eligible for our K-1 programs. There are no pre-K Summer Safari sessions. Children should be registered for the grade level they will be entering in the fall, and they may be registered only within their correct age group.
Camp fee includes a Summer Safari Day Camp baseball cap and water bottle, daily snack with juice box, and a ride on the Speedwell Foundation Conservation Carousel.
Four-day Session (July 5-8, no camp on July 4)
Before-Camp Care: Available from 8 to 8:45 a.m. Cost is $100 per session (or $80 for the four-day session).
After-Camp Care: Available from 3 to 6 p.m. An additional fee will be charged after 6 p.m. Cost is $175 per session (or $140 for the four-day session).
Drop-off for all camps is in the Visitor Center auditorium. After gathering with their teacher and classmates, campers will go to their classroom at one of several locations in the park.
Campers in After-Camp Care must be picked up in Visitor Center classrooms. You must show photo identification when picking up your camper at dismissal or in After-Camp Care.
With our registration system, all participants must have an online account. You will need your FONZ member ID number and the 2016 discount code to receive the member rate. This system enables you to register multiple children at once, view your account online, and make payments.
American Camp Association policy updates require that we collect the following information at the time of registration. Please have this information available at the time of registration.

Cancellation requests received at least four weeks prior to the start of the session will receive a 75-percent refund. Transfer requests received at least four weeks prior to the start of the session will be charged a 10-percent administrative fee. Please email the FONZ Safari Day Camp Office with cancellation and transfer requests. No refunds or changes will be made for less than four weeks' notice.
