The National Zoo Goes Non-Smoking
Beginning Dec. 1, 2006, smoking will be prohibited in the public areas at the Smithsonian's National Zoo, including the Conservation and Research Center in Front Royal, Va. Smoking is also prohibited in all Zoo vehicles.
This policy has been implemented to decrease fire hazard and to ensure the safety and health of Zoo visitors, staff and animals.
Zoo staff will install disposal containers for smoking materials and “No Smoking” signs throughout the park, including pedestrian entrances to the Zoo and to the Zoo parking lots.
