Zoo Visitors Can Preview New Giraffe At Elephant House
The new giraffe Malaika has settled into her surroundings
at the National Zoo’s Elephant House. At this time,
the building will be open periodically so she can adjust to
visitors and so the public can see her along with the hippos,
elephants and rhinos. Zoo keepers plan to closely watch Malaika
as she adjusts to the presence of visitors in her new home.
If all goes as expected, the building will remain open during
its normal hours of 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The building may
be closed if it is determined that Malaika and the Zoo’s
other giraffe, Jana need more time to adjust.
Even if the building is closed, weather permitting, the other
animals, including Kandula, the young male Asian elephant,
will be on view outdoors during mid-day.
