Congratulations Ms. Haruna Murayama!!

In March of this year (2008), Foodex, the largest international food and beverage exhibition in the world, was held in Makuhari Messe convention center just outside Tokyo in Chiba Prefecture. With Foodex's focus on issues of globalization of the food industry and corporate social responsibility, it is no wonder that interest in Bird Friendly® emerged in the Barista Competition held there.

The barista, Ms. Haruna Murayama of Club Harie, won 7th Place in the Specialty Coffee Association of Japan's Barista Competition at the Foodex show. In doing so, she used a Bird Friendly® coffee roasted by Ogawa Coffee of Kyoto. She had this to say about her winning:

“I am very happy that Bird Friendly® Coffee roasted by Ogawa Coffee was highly rated in the Barista Championship of Japan. Through this Championship, I wish to be able to appeal to many people that while growing coffee, we can also do something to protect the environment. I hope to continue making and serving delicious and sustainable coffee cup by cup from my heart.”

We salute Ms. Murayama's efforts and share vision in seeing Bird Friendly® coffee as one of the paths to a more sustainable world.
