This week brought us our first captures of quite a few migrant species: Yellow-throated Warbler, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Nashville Warbler, Orchard Oriole, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Clay-colored Sparrow, Indigo Bunting, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, American Redstart and Black-throated Green Warbler.
In terms of numbers, migration is still just getting started. One day we had spring weather with sustained winds over 30mph and we were unable to open nets. Through some slow hours at the banding table the crew has gotten to know each other better, and we've settled into our everyday working groove. We are feeling confident as we await the full force of the migration. We are also really looking forward to the next few weeks when several local school groups will be visiting the site and learning about migration.
