Sumitomo Corporation, a large conglomerate with interests in many sectors, became the first company to import Bird Friendly® coffee into Japan.
The first of their coffee is coming from Finca Irlanda, one of our certified farms in Chiapas, Mexico, and it will be roasted for the Japanese market by Ogawa Roasting Company.
Robert Rice, the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center's coffee expert, went to Tokyo, Japan in January, 2005, to give a presentation to the staff of Ogawa and Sumitomo, as well as an interview to the Japanese equivalent to the New York Times on the theme of "Bird Friendly" coffee.
