Camel Coffee Launches Bird Friendly® in Japan

Camel Coffee Company of Tokyo, Japan, launched its first Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center-certified shade-grown coffee in November, 2006. The new coffee bears the "Bird Friendly®" label (see picture at right). The company manages the Kaldi Farm stores, which resemble Trader Joe's stores in the United States.

The Kaldi Farm stores appear in shopping malls and other commercial sites, offering an array of high-end products alongside the company's mainstay product: coffee. The number of stores grew from 60 to more than 100 over the past three years, with at least one store now in Bangkok, Thailand.

We are pleased to welcome Camel Coffee and its Kaldi Farm stores of the Tokyo area to the Bird Friendly® coffee program, and look forward to working with them to educate consumers and contribute to the well-being of farmers and birds by linking our conservation efforts to the marketplace with Bird Friendly® coffee.
