Vermilion Flycatcher: Zoom It
If you zoom in on the bill, you can see why the flycatchers are so good at catching flies. There are stiff hairs, bristles, all around the bill that help to guide flying insects into the bird's beak. The bill itself is quite wide, although this is difficult to discern given the angle of the photo.
For most kinds of flycatchers, and there are a great many, the males and females look very similar. But for the vermilion flycatcher, the males are much more brightly colored than the females.
