Biography
Dr. Hadrien Vanthomme is a French ecologist at CIRAD (the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development) with 19 years of experience in guiding decision-making for biodiversity management, natural resources, and conservation.
Dr. Vanthomme leads research focusing on population ecology, functional ecology, and the application of mathematical models to complex systems. He also specializes in encompassing social science, ecology, GIS, and remote sensing and positioning. Dr. Vanthomme as a versatile professional in landscape and biodiversity management.
He has collaborated for over a decade with the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute Zoo, where he developed a scenario planning tool for managing working landscapes. His work has contributed to advancing knowledge in landscape connectivity and the impact of infrastructure on biodiversity, which is helping to shape conservation policies in tropical regions.
Dr. Vanthomme has published peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals, addressing topics such as biodiversity conservation, wildlife management, and ecosystem services. He has also authored literature on sustainable hunting practices, reflecting his commitment to integrating scientific research with practical conservation strategies.
Dr. Vanthomme is experienced in facilitating community engagement, building consensus, and providing expert recommendations. He has worked in fundraising from private and public funders and project direction across various ecosystems in Peru, Paraguay, and Central Africa,
In 2010, Dr. Vanthomme received a Ph.D. in Resources and Ecosystem Management from the French National Museum of Natural History. In 2003, he received a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine from the Veterinary School of Nantes in France.
