The Smithsonian's National Zoo is open every day of the year except Dec. 25.
VISITORS: On Oct. 27, the Zoo will close at 4 p.m. in preparation for Night of the Living Zoo. Great Ape House, Reptile Discovery Center, Think Tank, Great Cats and the Speedwell Conservation Carousel will close at 2 p.m. Additionally, Small Mammal House, Panda House, Elephant Community Center and Amazonia will close at 3 p.m.

Please be aware that certain attractions, including the Speedwell Conservation Carousel, along with animal demonstrations and outdoor animal viewing, are weather dependent.


Grounds: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (last admittance 4 p.m.) | 7 p.m. closing in summer* (last admittance 6 p.m.)
Exhibit Buildings: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. | 6 p.m. closing in summer* (Amazonia opens at 10 a.m. all year)
Dining & Shopping: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | 5 p.m. closing in summer*
Visitor Center: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. | 6 p.m. closing in summer*

*Summer hours begin March 15 and run through Sept. 30. Exact dates may vary each year. Please check back for updates.
