Small Mammal House Welcomes Porcupette

The Small Mammal House welcomed a baby prehensile-tailed porcupine this week, born on exhibit sometime overnight between Feb. 22 and Feb. 23, 2017! The baby is the third offspring born to adult prehensile-tailed porcupines, Bess and Clark. Baby porcupines are known, adorably, as "porcupettes." Keepers hope to be able to determine the sex of the porcupette over the next week or so.
