Description
The Smithsonian's National Zoo & Conservation Biology Institute invites applications for a highly motivated fellow to independently develop a framework that will ensure credibility and transparency for the emerging biodiversity credit market. This position offers a unique opportunity to help shape future conservation efforts worldwide, and in particular, Peru. The successful candidate will conduct independent, peer-reviewed research and will work closely with the Ministry of the Environment of Peru (MINAM).
Requirements
- Ph.D. or M.S. with equivalent experience in ecology, conservation biology, environmental policy, environmental economics, or related field.
- Proven ability to synthesize literature across ecological and conservation science disciplines.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Must be fluent in Spanish and English.
- Candidates with experience or interest in policy-relevant research, such as REDD+ or payments for ecosystem services (PES), are strongly encouraged to apply.

This is an 18-month full-time position starting in June 2025. The position includes a stipend of ~$3,500 per month. The successful candidate will be stationed in Lima, Peru and will be expected to work in the Peru office of the Smithsonian’s Center for Conservation and Sustainability and the office of MINAM.
