Jenny Santiestevan, L.V.T.

Biography

Jenny Santiestevan is responsible for overseeing the care, preservation and management of biological frozen collections, mainly from threatened animal species, stored at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute’s biorepository in Front Royal, Virginia. Collections maintained in the facility are from other Smithsonian units as well as other institutions. Prior to her work with the Smithsonian, Santiestevan worked as a licensed veterinary technician for domestic animals and as a clinical laboratory technician and manager. She has worked at SCBI since 2007, when she began her zoo career as the gamete laboratory manager based in Washington, D.C. Over the years, she has held other positions at SCBI before transitioning to her current role as biorepository manager in 2020. Santiestevan earned a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech in 2002, followed by an associate degree in veterinary technology from the Northern Virginia Community College in 2004.
