Fun and Frisky Valentine-themed Event at National Zoo

Looking for the “wildest” way to celebrate Valentine’s Day without breaking the bank? Attend the Smithsonian’s National Zoo’s second annual Woo at the Zoo on Friday, Feb. 12, from 6:00–10:00 p.m. This extraordinary evening, open to both singles and sweethearts, is a light-hearted exploration into the sexual behaviors of animals. Hosted by the Zoo’s most charismatic animal experts, Woo at the Zoo presents an opportunity to learn about animal mating, dating and reproductive habits in an honest and humorous forum.

You and your “deer” one will enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres, a cupcake you can decorate, a long-stemmed rose courtesy of Whole Foods Market, and a cash bar offering a specialty drink—a "My Tai"— in a commemorative glass.

Woo at the Zoo presentations will feature a scientific, yet entertaining look at the more remarkable animal facts on reproduction, choosing mates and raising families. Did you know that Zoo animals mate via their own “match.com?” In other instances, it’s all about the animals’ own distinctive abilities; some birds choose a mate with the best nest construction skills, while sea horses and some cranes have an incredible mating “dance.” Unfathomably, it is uniquely possible for female opossums to get pregnant while they’re pregnant. Whether covered in fur, feathers or scales, from courtship to consummation, you will be amazed to learn that many species indulge in unimaginably exotic romantic rituals.

All the fun takes place in the Zoo’s Visitor Center auditorium. Woo at the Zoo is for adults ages 21 and older (a valid ID is required for admission). Choose from two presentation time slots: 6:30–7:30 p.m. or 8:30–9:30 p.m. Each ticket is valid for a time-specified show. Guests are encouraged to come early before the presentation begins, or stay after to enjoy our cash bar and Valentine festivities. Tickets are $7 for FONZ members, $10 for nonmembers and may be purchased at any National Zoo gift shop between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., on the Zoo’s website at nationalzoostore.tamretail.net/events or by calling the Zoo’s ticket line at (202) 633-0151. Parking for the event is free.

Woo at the Zoo is sponsored by Whole Foods Market.
