Media Advisory: Asian Small-Clawed Otter Family Debuts at the Smithsonian's National Zoo

Photo Opportunity: Media can expect to see the otters engaging in a variety of natural behaviors in their exhibit, such as playing, swimming, foraging for bugs and nesting materials, catching prey and basking in the sun. Note: the animals move very quickly.
A new family of Asian small-clawed otters (Amblonyx cinereus) is making quite a splash at the Smithsonian's National Zoo. Eleven otters—two parents and two litters of their offspring—will dive into their new digs during an exclusive media preview. Zoo Nutrition staff will supply the otters with clams, mussels and crabs, courtesy of Whole Foods Market, in addition to their regular Zoo diet.
Media: Press credentials required. Please park in the Zoo's parking lot A, closest to Connecticut Ave., at the upper end of the Zoo. Asia Trail is conveniently located across from the Visitor Center. Enter from Olmsted Walk. Visit the Zoo's website for a map of the location. Parking passes will be provided at the registration table.
