Keeper Aide: Kids' Farm
The Kids' Farm is home to various farm animals, some of which are rare breeds, including the San Clemente Island goats and Ossabaw Island hogs.
Shifts are on Mondays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You must be able to volunteer at least one day each week for one year.
Volunteers should be physically fit and willing to work in all types of weather, as our collection is exhibited outside and in an open barn. Applicants should be interested in learning about and caring for a variety of animals. Keeper Aides at Kids' Farm will assist animal keepers with all aspects of animal husbandry including: cleaning feces, hay and soiled wood shavings from yards and overnight holding stalls, preparing food, water, and enrichment for animals, harnessing and walking goats and donkeys (on leash) to and from animal enclosures, animal grooming, cleaning public areas, and assisting with public education demonstrations. Some animal care experience is preferred, but not required.
Once provisionally accepted, you must complete mandatory online orientation and training. Additional training will be provided on the job. There is a probationary period for all keeper aides.
These positions are highly competitive and there are limited spaces available. Submission of an application is not a guarantee of placement. Applicants will be interviewed by unit staff, and those who are provisionally accepted will undergo background checks, including fingerprinting, as a requirement for approval as a keeper aide. Once accepted, volunteers must submit proof of required vaccinations (including tetanus and a negative TB test) to the Zoo's health unit.Apply Now
