Asociación Civil de Productores Agroforestales Piedra e’ Cachimbo – La Florida (ACAFLO)

Asociación Civil de Productores Agroforestales Piedra e’ Cachimbo – La Florida (ACAFLO) is located in the Cordillera de la Costa, Venezuela, a biodiverse region home to hundreds of migratory and resident bird species, including the endangered Red Siskin. ACAFLO growers are committed to promoting forest conservation through sustainable agroforestry practices and organic management on their farms. Together they conserve 41 hectares of vital Bird Friendly habitat.
“Bird Friendly is very good because of the support it provides,” said ACAFLO member Juan Pereira. “Because of Bird Friendly, I see higher coffee prices in the future, and therefore more security for covering family needs. We must help conserve trees and continue planting them.”
Featured bird on the finca: Red Siskin
Feathered fact: With its iconic black and red coloring, it's easy to see why the Red Siskin has been an inspiration for generations of Venezuelan singers, poets and painters. They are listed as “Endangered” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) but Bird Friendly farms like ACAFLO are helping to conserve their wild population by maintaining and protecting vital forest habitat!
