Safari Day Camp class aides help teachers supervise campers (kindergarten through grade 7) as they explore the lives and habitats of animals and learn about worldwide conservation efforts. Class aides assist with science experiments, activities, crafts, Zoo walks and much more! Friends of the National Zoo is seeking responsible, outgoing and motivated teens to volunteer their time and talent for this program.

Summer Safari Day Camp begins Monday, June 22, 2020, and ends Friday, Aug. 14, 2020. Camp sessions run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday each week (no camp on July 3). Class aides are expected to arrive by 8:30 a.m. each day and will be able to leave by 3:30 p.m.

Special qualifications

Junior class aides (ages 13-15) are required to work a minimum of two weeks. Senior class aides (ages 16-17) are required to work a minimum of three weeks. Based on need and availability, class aides may volunteer for additional weeks. Eligible teens must turn 13 years old before June 22, 2020, and cannot turn 18 before Aug. 14, 2020. New applicants are required to submit an application with two references and participate in a group interview session.
