Special Event Volunteer, Conservation Discovery Day
Description
Friends of the National Zoo is seeking volunteers for Conservation Discovery Day, the most sci-taclaur and exclusive event at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute. It's SCBI's most exciting day of the year, with a jam-packed series of unique science demos, mini chats on hot topics in conservation, research presentations, career panel discussions and exhibits.
Date: Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019Time: Volunteer check-in opens at 8 a.m. Volunteer shifts are from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 12:30-4:30 p.m.
Volunteer Roles:
Volunteers play a pivotal role in making the event run smoothly, and our guests have an enjoyable experience. Volunteer roles may include engaging visitors, assisting in guest registration, directing foot traffic, setting up the event, lending a hand with presentations, or supporting researchers with activities. Roles are pre-assigned. If you would like to request a specific assignment, please indicate that when you sign up. Placement cannot be guaranteed, but preferences will be taken into account. We ask for your flexibility with assignments in case of last-minute changes the morning of the event.
Application Requirements
The event runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. with two shifts: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. volunteers may sign up for one or both shifts. Be sure to indicate on your registration form which shift(s) you would like to volunteer.
A boxed lunch will be provided.*
*A vegetarian option will be available, but we will not be able to accommodate other dietary restrictions.
Training
Staff will be on hand to provide on-the-job training.
