Special Event Volunteer

Description

Special event volunteers are the foundation of the many entertaining events that take place on Zoo grounds. Public education, membership appreciation and fundraising events — such as Wildlife Migration Day, ZooFari, Boo at the Zoo and ZooLights — would not be possible without the assistance of special event volunteers.

Friends of the National Zoo is seeking volunteers for the events corps program. Event corps volunteers assist with a variety of tasks, including event set-up, arts and crafts facilitation, activity monitoring, registration and more. Events take place throughout the year, but spring and fall are peak seasons.

FONZ events corps volunteers must commit to at least three special events per year and are asked to attend one of two seasonal meetings. Volunteers in the program receive access to the volunteer newsletter, appreciation events, a discounted FONZ membership and a uniform shirt. Those interested in volunteering at a single event need to be a part of this program.

Application Requirements

Volunteers will be asked to complete a background check as part of this program.

Those interested in volunteering at a single event do not need to be a part of this program. Check back for single-day event volunteer opportunities as they become available.

Training

Volunteers must complete online orientation and attend the in-person training (date TBD).  In-person training will cover event logistics and an introduction to the Zoo and its mission.

Special qualifications

Volunteers should be comfortable standing outdoors in all weather conditions.
