Description

Friends of the National Zoo is seeking general event volunteers and volunteer bartenders for ZooFari: Bite Night, a benefit for wildlife sponsored by Geico, on Thursday, May 16, 2019.

ZooFari: Bite Night is the Smithsonian's National Zoo's premier food-tasting event, where more than 3,500 guests enjoy food, wine and beer from area restaurants, vintners and breweries; as well as music, a silent auction and more — all in the unique setting of the Zoo. Volunteers are needed for the following roles:

  • Bartenders (who will serve beer, wine, soda and water)
  • Silent auction assistants (who will help guests register for the silent auction and help monitor the silent auction tent — must be comfortable with iPads)
  • General special event volunteers (who will be assigned as registration help, greeters, VIP area monitors, plus a number of other similar jobs).

The event runs from 6:30-9:30 p.m., and the volunteer shift is from 5-9:45 p.m. Some volunteers will be asked to report in at 4:30 p.m.

Application Requirements

Volunteers must be 21 or older to volunteer at this event. Staff and volunteers are prohibited from consuming alcohol at this event and may not visit the booths to sample the food. Dinner will be provided for volunteers and will include a vegetarian option. FONZ will not be able to accommodate other dietary restrictions, so plan accordingly. This event is rain or shine.

Training

Staff will be on hand to provide on-the-job training.
