Associate Director of Planning, Facilities, and Exhibits

The Associate Director of Planning, Facilities, and Exhibits is a senior management position within the Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute (NZCBI) responsible for providing strategic program planning and overseeing and managing the operations and maintenance of facilities and exhibits.

Salary: $163,964 - $191,900 per year

In this position, you will:

  • Direct, prepare, and oversee strategic and long-range capital and facilities planning.
  • Prepare operating budgets, capital expenditures, and property disposition plans.
  • Manage the installation, maintenance, and information of exhibits by consulting with artists, curators, evaluating the purchase of supplies, scheduling, budgeting, and travel arrangements.
  • Implement and support the development of short and long-term growth and maintenance plans of facilities, operations, and exhibits
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for efficient and effective use of facilities resources to include spacing, utilities, and equipment
  • Monitor contract performance ensuring terms of contract are in compliance and serve as the single point of contact on matters concerning contracts.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal Service.  For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience directing programs and managing administrative operations; and overseeing the maintenance of facilities within an organization.

  • Knowledge in developing and overseeing implementation of policies on effective use of facilities resources to include areas of maintenance, infrastructure, parking, lighting and repairs, and renovation of NZCBI facilities.
  • Skill in the preparation of operating budgets, capital expenditures, and property disposition planning.
  • Knowledge in coordinating and planning development of an installation of exhibits collaborating with curators, design and educational aligned of goals and mission.
  • Skill in managing contracts with vendors and service providers in areas of design, construction, facilities maintenance, exhibit development and repairs.
