Biography

As the Special Assistant for Animal Care for Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, Kevin oversees animal care, welfare, medicine, nutrition, and life support programs.

Kevin has more than 33 years of experience in the zoo and animal care profession, with an expertise in in population genetics and demography in support of animal management and species conservation. 

Previously, he served as Interim General Curator of the Philadelphia Zoo and the Director of Biological Programs at the Minnesota Zoo, where he led animal care departments and ensured the safety of zoo staff and animals, as well as the integrity of the animal collections and facilities.  

Kevin currently serves as the Chair of the Population Management Subcommittee for the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums, a position he has held since 2001. He also assists the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission in the genetic management of coral species. 

Outside of work, Kevin enjoys camping with his family, biking, and woodworking.
