Amanda Navine is a graduate student researcher at SCBI’s Center for Conservation Genomics. Navine studies the gut microbiomes of Hawaiian honeycreepers in relation to avian malaria, the leading threat to endangered honeycreeper species persistence. Her study focuses on Hawaii Amakihi, which have begun to show reduced mortality in the face of malaria infection, and whether their survival is due to resistance being conferred by their gut microbes.

Navine earned her bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2016, and is currently working on her master’s degree at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
