Vinícius Cardoso Cláudio, M.S.

Biography

Vinícius C. Cláudio is a graduate student researcher at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute's Center for Conservation Genomics where he reviews the taxonomic diversity of neotropical bats, specifically the eptesicus and histiotus species. For his research he is uses morphological, ecological and molecular data to identify the taxonomic limits and the distribution of these bat species.

His projects include:

  • Systematic review of Central and South American species of Eptesicus
  • Systematic review of Histiotus

Cláudio is also a taxonomist and a wildlife biologist. Since 2010, he's researched systematics, biogeography, conservation, microbiology, ecology and natural history of neotropical bats. He has also worked as an environmental consultant since 2011, with a focus on inventories and monitoring of wild mammals, mostly bats in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, Cerrado, Caatinga and Amazon biomes.

Vinícius C. Cláudio earned his bachelor degree in conservation biology from Universidade Federal de São Carlos in 2013, his master's degree in wildlife wonservation from Universidade Federal de São Carlos and Fundação Parque Zoológico de São Paulo in 2018. He is currently working on his doctorate degree at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute.
